What Do You Need To Work From Home?
The equipment you will need for your home office when working from home will vary depending on the kind of work you are doing. The basics include:
Your computer should be reliable and have enough power and memory to handle the work you will be using it for. If your computer is not suitable then you will be spending more time dealing with software failures rather than working.
You will need the appropriate software to enable you to complete the tasks you need to do. For example, if you are doing graphic design you will need to have suitable software such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar to enable you to produce professional quality files.
Back Up Drive
You will be relying on your computer for your livelihood. For this reason it is very important to have an external hard drive or another system where you can back up your files. Doing this will ensure that should your computer fail, all your hard work will not be lost.
In order to communicate with clients or employers you will need a stable internet connection with a suitable speed.
A printer is recommended for printing documents, receipts and invoices.
A comfortable office chair is one of the most important things you can have. You will be doing a lot of sitting down while working on your computer and it can be damaging to your back if you are not sitting comfortably. Develop good work posture habits early to avoid health problems later.
You should have a desk to work on. It is ok to use the dining table if you are just starting out but ideally you should have a desk in your own work space. Just make sure that you are comfortable and it is not too high or too low.
